Summer Dreaming

By Philip Kirkland

In sun-kissed summer, loose of mind,
Go, reap what treasures you shall find
Both thought and substance, for their part
And guard them in your ardent heart
Go, drink the pools of merriment
And all celestial pleasures sent
Then roam the hills the sun illumes
Where wind disperses sweet perfumes
With lid-locked eyes, absorb the sounds
Of Mother Nature's rhythmic rounds
Let strains of summer linger long
Imbibe the warmth of every song
When autumn dawns to quench the fires
At length the summer's term expires
But shed for summer ne'er a tear
Its lease will be renewed next year
