Storm of the Mind

By Cassandre Smith

Landscape sheathed in bleakness
Day 25, stranded, cabin a speck amongst the fury
Droves of powder slam and strike, still standing

Frost creates foggy predictions upon the pane
Detailing my untimely demise
The window is no longer my ally against this madness

Surrounding world, drowning in white
Falling flakes appear delicate, airy, soft sprinkles of crystals
Heavier than they appear, my heart is much heavier

Pure as a virgin, so beautiful, so deadly
Day 39, pummeled to death from the inside
No end - must make my own

Clouds spread, beckoning calm
Door opens, blurry, hazed figures materialize, dissipate
Too late - have gone to the blizzard in my mind
